Echo Studio — Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
Echo Studio is a browser extension published by DhuRee Labs Inc. (dhureelabs.com). This policy covers the Echo Studio extension for Chrome, version 1.2.1 and later.
The short version
Echo Studio collects nothing. Your recordings are made by your browser, stored in your browser, and never uploaded. We operate no server for this product, so there is nowhere for them to go.
What we collect
Nothing. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no usage statistics, no accounts, no advertising and no third-party scripts of any kind. We cannot see your recordings, your settings or how you use the extension.
What is stored on your device
Echo Studio keeps three things, all inside your Chrome profile on your own computer.
1. Your recordings
An IndexedDB database named echo-studio, with two stores:
| Store | What it holds |
|---|---|
chunks | The recorded audio and video, in pieces of about one second |
recordings | One entry per recording, described below |
Each entry in recordings holds: an identifier, the name you gave it (or a
date-based default), when it was made, the mode (screen + audio, screen only or audio only), the
file formats used, whether it has sound and whether your microphone was included, the picture
size and frame rate captured, the audio bitrate and sample rate, its size and length, whether it
is complete or was interrupted, and, if it was interrupted, a short note saying why.
They stay until you delete them in the library, clear the extension’s data, or uninstall the extension.
2. Your recording settings
One entry in the studio page’s localStorage, under the key
echo-settings: the mode, capture source, video quality, frame rate, recording
format, audio bitrate, and whether the microphone is switched on. It does not include the names
of your recordings or anything you recorded.
3. Which tab is recording
One value in chrome.storage.session, under the key recordingTab: the
number of the studio tab while a recording is in progress. The background worker uses it to
clear the REC badge on the toolbar icon if that tab is closed. Chrome erases the session area
when the browser closes.
Your screen and your microphone
Echo Studio records only after you press Start recording and choose what to share in Chrome’s own picker. Chrome asks every time.
The microphone is off unless you turn on Add microphone, and Chrome asks your permission before it can be used.
Capture stops when you stop the recording, close the studio tab, or stop sharing from Chrome’s own controls. Nothing is captured in the background after the studio closes. What is captured is written to the database above and nowhere else. It is not analysed, transcribed or transmitted.
Converting and downloading
Converting a recording to MP4, MOV, WebM, MP3 or WAV happens on your computer, using Chrome’s own codecs and two bundled libraries. Your original recording is never overwritten.
When you download, Chrome either asks where to save the file, which gives the extension access to that one file only, or saves it to your usual downloads folder.
Permissions, and what they do not give us
The extension requests two permissions:
storage, for therecordingTabvalue described above.-
unlimitedStorage, so that long recordings are not cut off by Chrome’s default storage quota. Your recordings still never leave your computer.
It requests no host permissions and injects no content scripts, so it cannot read, change or observe any web page you visit.
Its content security policy is script-src 'self'; object-src 'none'; connect-src
'self'. That instructs Chrome to block every network connection the extension might try
to make outside its own files. It cannot contact any server: not a third party’s, and not ours.
Third-party components
Two open-source libraries are bundled inside the package and loaded from it. Neither is fetched from the internet, and neither contacts any server.
| Component | Version | Licence | Used for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mediabunny | 1.59.0 | MPL-2.0 | converting video between MP4, MOV and WebM |
| lamejs (LAME) | 1.2.1 | LGPL-3.0 | encoding MP3 |
Their notices ship with the extension in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md and
vendor/.
Deleting your data
Delete any recording from its details window in the library. That removes its entry and every stored piece of its media. Uninstalling the extension removes everything Echo Studio has stored. Download any recording you want to keep first: browser storage is not a backup.
Recording other people
You are responsible for what you record. Many places require the consent of the people in a call or meeting before it is recorded, and some content is protected by copyright. Record only what you have the right to record.
Children
Echo Studio is a general-purpose recording tool. It collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the updated text is published here before the change ships.
